We often hear of success stories of individuals who work their way up hard to become government officers. In today’s article, we will talk about not just an individual but a whole family, many members of which are high-ranking officials. This story is of a family from the state of Chhattisgarh. Shubham Dev, a resident of Ambikapur, bagged the second position in the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC) PCS Recruitment 2022 exam. Prior to that, he was working as a deputy engineer. The inspiration to appear for and crack the CGPSC PCS 2022 exam for Shubham came from his IAS brother Rahul Dev and IPS sister-in-law Bhavna Gupta.
Both Rahul and Bhavna are IAS and IPS from the 2014 batch. Currently, Bhavna Gupta is the SP of the Bemetara district and Rahul Dev is the District Collector of the Mungeli district. On the other hand, Shubham’s mother is a teacher and his father is a Block Education Officer in the Surguja district. Shubham will soon be carrying the family legacy even forward by taking on the mantle of deputy collector.
Shubham, who is also an engineering graduate of IIT Kanpur, had reached the interview round in the UPSC CSE examination in 2021 but missed the bull’s eye by just a few marks. But he qualified for the UPSC Prelims exam this year and has laid his focus on the UPSC Mains exam. Shubham said that he started preparing for UPSC right after his B.Tech degree from IIT Kanpur in 2017.
He tried in the academic year 2018-19 but he was unable to pass the UPSC Prelims. He succeeded in passing the preliminary exams next year and even reached the interview round last year but was unable to crack it. Now, he is awaiting the UPSC mains which will be conducted from September 15 to 24. Shubham added that appearing for the exams came naturally to him as he had inspirations within the family itself.
