But even then youngster Ishan Kishan as well as vice-captain, Hardik Pandya were able to steer the momentum back in favour of India after making significant contributions and helping India set a decent total.

In the Super 4 stage, the rematch between India vs Pakistan was a crucial fixture in determining who would make the finals. Team India came prepared as they rectified the mistakes in the previous fixture like the lack of intent when playing and the lack of positive cricket. The opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill managed to put in a century-run partnership in quick time helping India gain momentum whilst setting a total.
Despite the loss of the openers, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, the latter who came back from injury, managed to steer the ship with fantastic tons to help India set a mammoth target of 356 runs in their quota of 50 overs. They managed to play according to the situation.
The Indian side were wary of rains potentially interrupting play and hence progressed through the innings in an aggressive manner thereby setting a decent total with minimal loss of wickets which would be advantageous if the Duckworth-Lewis method were to come into play.
The various contributions spread out amongst the batters will be positive looking at the upcoming ODI World Cup which is hosted in India. The last time the World Cup was hosted in India, the Indian team managed to lift the trophy in 2011, under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
Pressure will be on the Indians with the World Cup at home and records showing that the home side has managed to win the World Cup in the last three editions.
