Mumbai civic officials have acknowledged an increase in dengue cases and attributed the rise in cases to an increased number of breeding spots
Mumbai has witnessed a notable rise in Dengue cases prompting experts to caution and stress the need to be ready for any untoward developments related to the disease.
According to a TOI report, the city has reported 3,068 cases of dengue from June to September 25. The data is around 3 times higher than the 1,123 confirmed cases in entire 2022.
Meanwhile, the expansion of reporting centres from 22 to 880 this year has helped in better reporting. Civic officials have acknowledged an increase in dengue cases and attributed the rise in cases to an increased number of breeding spots.
On the other hand, six people died while undergoing treatment for dengue in West Bengal.
While two patients died at a private hospital in Kolkata during treatment, two other people died in Ghatal in Pachim Medinipur, and two persons died in nearby Kharagpur, officials said.
Karnataka also saw a surge in dengue fever with over 7,000 cases reported in this month alone. On September 11, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed officials to take all precautionary measures to prevent the spread of dengue fever and urged the people to give utmost priority to cleanliness in their neighbourhoods.
In a Facebook post, Siddaramaiah said more than 7,000 dengue cases were reported across the state in the last few days, out of which more than 4,000 cases were from Bengaluru city alone.
”Spoke to concerned department officials about the rapid spread of dengue, instructed them to take all necessary precautionary measures. In Bengaluru city limits, effective measures are being followed for mosquito control including spraying of medicines, identifying places where water is stored and cleaning them,” he said.
