The Madhya Pradesh government has announced 35 per cent reservation for women in government jobs. MP Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan had announced during Rakhshi Bandhan this year, that women will get 35 per cent reservation in all direct recruitment for government jobs in the state. Now, the General Administration Department has issued a notification regarding this.

The 35 per cent reservation formula will be applicable in all departments except the forest department. This would be implemented vertically and horizontally so that women of all sections avail the benefit, the department said. The decision has been taken to make women empowered and self-reliant. The quota for women in government jobs has been fixed after the Chief Minister’s order. This announcement comes ahead of the MP Assembly polls which are due by the end of this year.

The reservation quota has been introduced under the Ladli Behna Yojana in the state. The Ladli Behna Yojana was introduced by CM Chouhan in June this year. Under the scheme, women belonging to middle class will receive Rs 1,000 per month, reported India.com. Women of all castes are eligible for this scheme. A sum of Rs 3,628.85 crore has been set aside for the scheme. Women in the age group of 23-60 whose annual income of their families is less than Rs 2.5 lakh annually would get Rs 1,000 per month under the scheme.

Under the Ladli Behna Yojana, the MP Chief Minister had also said that 1.25 crore women will get Rs 1,250 starting this month. The amount will gradually be hiked to Rs 3,000 per month with an aim to uplift the economic and social condition of women in the state. He further said that women would get tracts of land in industrial estates so that they could open small-scale units. The state government aims to raise the income of women to at least Rs 10,000 per month, Chouhan had said earlier. Further, women will be given free land in villages and plots in cities which have been cleared of encroachments.
