Nedumudi Venu died aged 73.
Director K Mahendran has written the story, screenplay and dialogues of Kopam.
Late actor Nedumudi Venu’s last film Kopam is all set to release in the cinema halls in Kerala on October 6. Kopam revolves around the storyline of the adorable bond between a grandfather, named Sadhu Ganapathy Iyer (Nedumudi Venu) and his granddaughter Meenakshi (Anjali Krishna). Other cast members of the film include Alif Sha, Alen Blaseena, Sajan Dhruv, Syam Namboothiri, Vidya Vishwanath, David John, Sangeeth Chikku and Vinod.
Director K Mahendran has written the story, screenplay and dialogues of the film. The plot of Kopam narrates how Sadhu Ganapathi Iyer is supported exclusively by his own pension and resides in an old age home. He may only claim Meenakshi as his own grandchild. Iyer is trying to live only for Meenakshi, who suffered an accident-related leg loss and is able to walk with the help of crutches.
MC Music unveiled the trailer of this film on September 9. The trailer shows how Meenakshi’s grandfather is encouraging her to take on every challenge of life. The trailer also provides an insight into Meenakshi’s personal life and how she harbours feelings for someone.
Nedumudi Venu had an illustrious acting career spanning many decades and his performances in films like His Highness Abdullah, and Margam still resonate with the audience. Venu has received a Special jury mention in the National Film Awards and the Kerala State Film Award for best actor in 2004. He was conferred this award for his portrayal of a former militant communist revolutionary in Margam. Venu last essayed the role of Colonel in the Tamil film Centimeter directed by Santosh Sivan. Venu was also an accomplished writer and wrote screenplays for many films. He also tried his hands at filmmaking and directed one movie.
He died at the age of 73 in a private hospital in Kerala. The actor was rushed to the hospital recently due to stomach-related ailments but he couldn’t be saved. Venu was married to TR Susheela and the couple is parents to Unni and Kannan. Venu’s fans expressed their shock over his demise on Twitter. Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran and director Sangeeth Sivan conveyed their tributes to Venu.
