For the first time in the history of Asian Games, India won 15 medals in a single day including 3 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze medals on October 1. The Athletics contingent made the nation proud as the likes of Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Avinash Sable won gold, Murali Shreeshankar, and Ajay Kumar Saroj won silver medals, whereas the likes of Seema Punia bagged bronze.
There were a few heartbreaks as well, the Indian badminton men’s team led 2-0 against China, but suffered a 2-3 defeat as they recorded a historic first-ever silver medal in the event. Two-time World Champion Nikhat Zareen won a bronze medal, even though she was a firm favourite for gold but she lost her semifinal bout 2-3.

There is plenty to look forward to on Day 9 as well, Indian archery contingent will look to add to India’s tally as there will be plenty of archery events on Monday, October 2.
The Athletics contingent have already contributed 12 medals, they will be looking to bag more as the likes of Tejaswin Shanker and others take centre stage. The Indian 4×400 mixed relay team featuring Muhammed Anas, Jisna Mathew, Aishwarya Mishra, Soniya Baishya, and Muhammed Ajmal will be in action too.
In Badminton, singles events have been underway, HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth will be in action and so will be PV Sindhu as well the doubles duo of Satwik-Chirag.
The Indian chess team comprising of Vidit Gujarathi, Gukesh D., Arjun Erigais, R. Praggnanandhaa will fight it out in round 4, and the women’s Kabaddi team will be in action for the first time as they face Chinese Taipei.
The men’s hockey team will face Bangladesh in a dead rubber having already sealed their knockout place as they will look to give some of their fringe players some game-time.
