26-year-old Vaishnavi Paul from Gonda, Uttar Pradesh secured the 62nd rank in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2022. The remarkable feat caught headlines as she made her parents and her community proud with her accomplishment.

While many dream of becoming an IAS or IPS officer, very few can crack the competitive exam. From the preliminary examination round to the interview round, one has to crack each round. Vaishnavi Paul set an example by finally cracking the tough exam with an excellent rank on her fourth attempt.

Vaishnavi Paul is the daughter of a businessman and a teacher. Her journey to success was not easy and required perseverance and confidence. It was her personal commitment to herself to crack the IAS exam.

Her source of inspiration to pursue a career as an IAS officer was newspapers. When she was a child, she used to see her father read the newspaper daily, which ultimately became her primary source of motivation. As per News18 Hindi, Vaishnavi said that the newspapers were filled with administration-related work about the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police. It also mentioned the power and responsibilities of an IAS officer. Another source of her inspiration was IAS Roshan Jacob, who is the former District Magistrate of Gonda district.

Vaishnavi completed her education at Fatima School, Gonda. Later, she enrolled for graduation in Economics from Delhi’s Lady Shri Ram College. She then completed her Master’s from the Jawaharlal Nehru University.

For the IAS interview, she was asked many questions among which she found one question to be particularly very interesting. She was asked a hypothetical question if she becomes the District Magistrate and the former Magistrate does not have good coordination with the Superintendent of Police then what would she do? To this, Vaishnavi responded that she would renew the professional relationship with a positive approach.

Previously, Vaishnavi Paul cleared the UPSC Preliminary exams on the first attempt but could not crack the main exam. In her third attempt, she cracked both the prelims and the mains but missed the interview. Instead of feeling discouraged, her failures were the stepping stone of her success and boosted her morale. While she did feel bad, she decided to take some time off and then resumed working hard to crack the exam once again.
